During the 1995-2000 period, YO3KPA was experimenting intensively with digital modes like RTTY. As in 1999 a total solar eclipse was announced, YO3ND and YO3FWC (now N2YO) planned transmitting live images with the eclipse using SSTV. They set up a camera onto the National Children’s palace  sky observatory and transmitted the feed all over the world using the YR99E call sign. They managed more than 100 QSO’s, but many QSL cards were received from SWL stations as well, who could just receive but not transmit SSTV.

There were just 3 stations in Europe that transmitted the eclipse live: Romania, France and Hungary.
